*In a Nutshell Edison’s top model phonograph, every collector’s dream. Introduction: Edison’s ’Opera’ phonograph was introduced in November 1911, as the follow-up model to the 1907 2/4-minute combination model Idelia, from which it herited many details. It is a strictly 4-minute-only phonograph, that - after introduction of the Blue Amberol cylinders one year later - was sold.

On this plate you’ll find the machine’s serial number. The portable machine above is a Victrola 50. The ’-ola’ was used by the company for models with interior or hidden horns. Two simple table-top Victrola models are the IV and VI. The IV and VI sold from late 1911 to 1926, when the Orthophonic models finally made these ’acoustic’ machines. Note: The most comprehensive identification guide to antique Edison Phonographs I have seen is The Edison Cylinder Phonograph Companion by George L. Download outlook mail for mac free. Frow (Stationary X-Press, 1994). Another Edison-centric work is the monumental From Tin Foil to Stereo, by Read and Welch. It was originally published in 1957, and reprinted by Bobbs-Merrill in 1977. From what I’ve heard that the serial number data for Edison has been largely thrown to the wind. That doesn’t mean it may not show up some day, but little of that seems to remain at the Edison site. One great exception is a listing for serial numbers of early Home models.
